The Algiers Economic Development Foundation is one of the most active community foundations in Louisiana. Its Board of Directors is comprised of well-respected community and business leaders whose goal is to continue the area’s growth and prosperity while maintaining its special quality of life. A full-time director is housed at its office to assist the local residential and business community, AEDF members, and people starting new businesses.

Over the past years, the AEDF has had an impressive impact on the Algiers community. While working with state and local elected officials the AEDF recently saved the military base from closing, in the last round of BRAC closures. It will be transformed into a "Federal City" concept with additions of Homeland Security and other military related entities. This will bring around 6, 000 to 7,000 new people to Algiers over the next few years.

AEDF recently also partnered with the City of Gretna to complete a Westbank Riverfront Study which is included in the overall New Orleans plan for development along the river. AEDF supported the Lakewood Golf Club in their transformation to a Lakewood which is now under development on General DeGaulle Drive.

The AEDF works closely with city and state entities to further economic development in Algiers as well as participates in community improvement projects like the Clean Team and Woodlands Trail development project. They are currently working on the Behrman Park project to build a world class soccer stadium within the park which will host a team and be a great gathering place for youth soccer events in the South.
